I produced another portable vessel that acts as a portable sculpture or body accessory for two. I invited women from different backgrounds to come on a series of walkabouts with me as we exchanged about our concerns and experiences as 21st century mothers.
This artwork in progress includes a women who used a donor to procreate, and women who adopted a child. I invite women of different ages, nationalities as well as a queer mother, Indigenous mother and teen mother.
This piece will culminate in a 5-channel video installation using the documentary style approach to documenting the said performances that took place in the Greater Montreal Area. The locations were chosen because of the statues of women erected in these areas.
Statues of women are harder to find than statues of men, and generally adopt the tradition of appropriating a women's body to symbolize other values such as innocence, virtue or peace to name a few. I am interested in coalescing and contrasting these values with the real women found in these spaces.
J'ai produit un second vaisseau qui fonctionne en tant que sculpture portative ou accessoire de corps pour deux personnes. Grâce à des vestons, il s'attache en dessous d'un bras, ce qui permet une variation de mouvements. J'ai ensuite, invité des femmes, de venir se promener avec moi dans mon objet métaphorique, tandis que nous échangions sur nos expériences et de nos préoccupations en tant que mères issues du 21e siècle. C'est plus difficile de trouver des statues d'hommes en comparaison à des statues de femmes. Souvent, les monuments de femmes adoptent la tradition d'approprier le corps féminin en tant que symbole pour d'autres significations, telle l'innocence, la paix ou la vertu par exemple. Je souhaite contraster et coaliser ces valeurs avec les femmes situées dans ces espaces.
