Faire face au monde en tant que mère II

In response to an earlier artwork (Facing the World as a Mother I) I produced a large-scale doll in my image for my children to interact with. With the help of a computer program I made a pattern based on a smaller pattern I had used to hand-knit two smaller dolls. I then dyed the cotton yarn a pink/orange skin tone to mimic my Caucasian skin tone. I wanted her to represent not only myself but the universal mother.
I then gave the doll to my two young sons to interact with in the manner they chose. These textile banners are the traces of those performances. Their semi-transparent fabric allows for a play of both natural and artificial light. In this way the play of light both veils and reveals aspects of the image and allows them to act as the traces of our lives within a larger history. As craft objects they created a time line with the objects of the permanent collection.
En réponse à une oeuvre précédente (Faire face au monde en tant que mère I) j'ai ensuite produit une poupée grandeur nature pour mes enfants à l'aide d'un programme informatique. J'ai conçu un patron basé sur celui utilisé pour faire mes deux petites poupées tricotées main et j'ai ensuite teint le fils de coton un ton rose/orangé pour imiter ma couleur de peau pâle de Caucasienne. Je voulais qu'elle représente non-seulement ma propre physionomie mais celle de la mère universelle aussi.
Je l'ai alors donnée à mes deux fils pour interagir avec elle à leur guise. Les bannières textiles sont les traces de ces performances. Leur tissu semi-transparent permet un jeu de lumière naturel et artificiel. De cette façon elles voilent et cachent certains aspects de l'image et agit en tant que traces de nos vies à l'intérieur d'une histoire plus large. En tant qu'objets artisanaux elles créent une ligne temporelle avec les objets de la collection permanente.
